Bintulu Port, Petronas offers gassing up cooling down services

17 May 2017

KUCHING: Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB), a subsidiary of Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd (BPHB) signed a non- binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Petronas LNG Sdn Bhd (PLSB), a subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) to collaborate in exploring potential business opportunities and value added services including offering Gassing Up Cooling Down (GUCD) services to other LNG vessel operators at the Bintulu Port in a bid to generate more revenue.

The GUCD is a specialised service to bring the storage tanks of LNG carriers, after dry-docking, to natural environment and later cool it down to cryogenic temperature (minus 160 degrees Celsius) before loading its next cargo. Bintulu Port will be providing port and maritime services in supporting the GUCD service.

Both parties are confident that LNG vessels operators will come to Bintulu Port for GUCD services.

Apart from that, BPSB and PLSB will also jointly conduct a feasibility study for the potential provision of LNG Bunkering service at Bintulu Port. The study will involve assessing the overall technical and commercial viability of LNG Bunkering activities at the port.

The MoU was signed on May 8 at the 19th Asia Oil and Gas Conference (AOGC) held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre last week.

Signing on behalf of BPSB was BPHB Group chief executive officer Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah, and witnessed by Omar Salleh, Chief Operating Officer of BPSB.
