KUCHING, April 17: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has plans to turn Bintulu Port into the most important hub in the ASEAN region.
With the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) formalising the change of Bintulu’s Port status from a Federal port to State port in Putrajaya on March 22, 2024, the port will be transferred to the State’s possession.
“Bintulu Port has been under the authority of the Federal government, and after June, they will repeal laws involving the port as it is returned to Sarawak. We will be managing Bintulu Port.
“I have a plan for Bintulu Port, but I can’t reveal it for now. God willing, once Bintulu Port is taken over, it will be the most important hub in the ASEAN region,” said Abang Johari during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering organised by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) at Naim Paragon Street Mall, Bintulu today.
Abang Johari later expressed his hope for Sarawak to become the most advanced State in Malaysia by the year 2030. — DayakDaily
