Bintulu Port launches Back to School 2026 aid for over 300 students
BINTULU (Dec 5): Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) has launched its Back to School 2026 programme, an initiative designed to alleviate financial pressure and bolster confidence for students from underprivileged families ahead of the new school year.
BPHB president and group chief executive officer Datuk Ruslan Abdul Ghani said the programme served a dual purpose: easing household burdens while reinforcing the port’s commitment to the community through meaningful corporate social responsibility (CSR).
“This initiative not only lightens financial pressures but also strengthens the bond between Bintulu Port and the local community,” he said at the launch event Thursday.
“It aligns with the aspirations of the Malaysian education system which emphasises quality access, fair opportunities, and holistic student development.”
Acknowledging the rising costs of school necessities — from uniforms and shoes to stationery — Ruslan stressed that CSR complements, rather than replaces, the crucial role of parents nurturing their children’s education.
“We hope to ease some of the burdens on parents while instilling confidence in students to step into the new school year well-prepared and motivated,” he said, noting that every child deserves to start their educational journey free from physical, psychological, or financial barriers.
He explained that such efforts ensure no student is left behind due to a lack of basic supplies.
As part of the programme, Bintulu Port distributed school bags, uniforms, and stationery to 314 secondary school students from six institutions: SMK Baru Bintulu (50 students), SMK Kemena (50), SMK Asyakirin (64), SMK Bandar (50), SMK Kidurong (50), and SMK Bintulu (50).
“Each student represents a hope, a dream, and a future. While we cannot predict who among them may become community leaders, engineers, teachers, entrepreneurs, or even nation-builders, we do know that every great success begins with a small step.
“Today, we are providing that step,” Ruslan said.
He urged the recipients to accept the assistance with gratitude and use it wisely, reminding them that their success would benefit themselves, their families, and the wider community.
Ruslan also extended his appreciation to the Bintulu District Education Office led by Samri Suhaili, attending teachers, and the programme committee for their dedication in ensuring the event’s success. - Borneo Post
