KUCHING, Feb 11: Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) is making substantial progress in its digital transformation and continuing to support local communities, as the long-awaited transfer of the port from federal to Sarawak control enters its final stages.

President and Group CEO of BPHB, Dato’ Ruslan Abdul Ghani emphasized the shift towards modernizing operations and expanding Bintulu Port’s digital capabilities.

“As we move forward, we are upgrading our equipment and moving more towards digital operations.

“We don’t only focus on operations, we’re extending our reach in every aspect,” he said in his speech during a media appreciation night held at a hotel in Kuching on Wednesday.

This transition, he added, is part of the port’s broader alignment with Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), with the aim of becoming a fully digitalized port by 2030.

Bintulu Port, according to him, also remains deeply committed to community initiatives.

One notable contribution is the port’s RM1 million investment in establishing “Anjung Kasih” at Bintulu Hospital, a facility providing vital accommodation for patients’ families.

At the same time, Ruslan said Bintulu Port is also a key partner in the upcoming Special Olympics Malaysia National Games 2026, set to take place in Bintulu this April.

For the record, the transfer of Bintulu Port from federal to Sarawak control is also nearing completion.

“We are in the final stages of the port transfer from being a federal port. Bintulu Port looks forward to receiving the concession agreement,” he said.

The transfer, valued at RM1.8 billion, will grant Sarawak regulatory oversight, while Bintulu Port Holdings will continue to manage day-to-day operations. – TVS
