PETALING JAYA: The positive growth of Sarawak's Bintulu Port despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic has been praised by the Transport Ministry (MOT).

In a Facebook post, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said he had a one-hour dialogue to discuss issues relating to the growth and development of the port, which he described as “world class” with the top management of Bintulu Port Holdings.

“Welcomed the top management and board directors of Bintulu Port Holdings during their courtesy visit to MOT yesterday, led by Board chairman Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias and Group CEO Datuk Mohammad Medan bin Abdullah.

“In our one-hour dialogue joined by the maritime division of the ministry, we discussed various issues related to the growth and future development of the world-class strategic Sarawak port," said Dr Wee.

He said that Bintulu Port generated RM728.39mil in operating revenue in 2021, 2.98% higher compared with 2020 despite very challenging economic conditions.

He also expressed the ministry’s commitment in supporting Bintulu Port’s growth.

“I'm happy with the good working relationships the port has with the Bintulu Port Authority and MOT Malaysia, and we will continue to support Bintulu Port's growth to complement the state's rapid growth,” he added.
