Runners and supporters from Bhutan, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Norway, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Australia, China, Korea and Thailand joined in the charity run, which took place from 5am to 10am.
The run was organised by the Persatuan Sukan dan Kebajikan Bomba Sarawak (Peskebs) and supported by Go Beyond.
The programme featured four competitive categories plus a fun run, and drew strong participation across all age groups.
Proceeds from the event were designated for the Bintulu Perpikat and Sarawak Orphans Welfare Board (Peryatim) Bintulu.
According to Bomba Bintulu Zone chief Wan Kamaruddin Wan Ahmad, the event aimed to strengthen ties between Bomba and the community through health-oriented activities while promoting the message of ‘Bomba di Hati Masyarakat’ (Bomba at the heart of the community).
“It also served to raise funds for local welfare causes, encourage healthy lifestyles and reinforce strategic collaboration with government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and local communities,” he said.
He added the turnout and support from government agencies, private sector partners and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) demonstrated a strong community solidarity and shared commitment to welfare and public health.
Among those present were Bomba Sarawak director Jamri Masran, special officer to the Bintulu MP Steven Kong Kai Seng, Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali, Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (Operations) general manager Ariff Azhari Ayadali, and Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd president and Group chief executive officer Dato Ruslan Abdul Ghani. - The Borneo Post
