AI revolution: Malaysia aims to create, own and export technology
26 Nov 2025

BINTULU: Malaysia is stepping up its journey towards becoming an AI-driven nation by 2030, with a focus on talent development, digital security and large-scale technology infrastructure.

Deputy Minister of Digital Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said these priorities align with the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which positions artificial intelligence (AI) as a key driver of the country’s economic growth.

He added that the national agenda goes beyond technology adoption, instead it stresses on the importance of AI to improve governance, business efficiency and everyday life for Malaysians.

“This aspiration is based on three main goals: making Malaysia a regional AI hub, producing ‘Made by Malaysia’ products and ensuring inclusive and sustainable development.

“We envision a future where we are not just technology users, but creators, owners, and exporters of technology to the world,” he said during the launch of Bintulu Port Digital Day 2025 on Tuesday.

He added that the federal government is also focusing on five key pillars, including futuristic policies, talent ecosystems, digital trust and next-generation infrastructure, which are expected to strengthen the nation’s competitiveness.

Also present at the event were Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) Group chief executive officer Datuk Ruslan Abdul Ghani and Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) chairman Datuk Sharkawi Alis. - Sarawak Tribune
