KUCHING: The completion of the new Masjid Darul Huda in Kampung Siol Kandis, worth RM5.2 million, provides comfort to the surrounding residents for worship.
Built on a site of 4,574 square meters, the new mosque can accommodate 1,200 worshippers at a time and is equipped with various facilities.
In 2021, the new construction project for Masjid Darul Huda in Kampung Siol Kandis was approved by the Sarawak Government worth RM3.9 million and waqf funds from contributions from residents inside and outside the village amounting to RM1.3 million.
This makes the total project worth RM5.2 million.
Construction of the mosque began on January 11, 2021 and will be fully completed on March 10, 2024, and was officiated by the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, today.
The effort to develop the new mosque in Kampung Siol Kandis began in 2019 with the establishment of a committee.
The establishment of the new mosque is the result of a land endowment by the late Tan Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki and Datin Sri Lily Johari and the late Tuan Abdul Rahim Moharif and his family.
Earlier, before officiating the mosque, Abang Johari also performed Friday prayers at the new mosque before symbolically handing over the funeral van donated by Yayasan Bintulu Port.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
