Bintulu Port continues to play a vital role as a key export gateway for the oil and gas industry.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30: Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd (BPHB) has highlighted the pivotal role of several sectors in driving the growth and development of the port.

These include the operations of the methanol plant in Kidurong, biomass exports, increased handling of roll-on/roll-off vessels (RORO), cement, and coal.

During its 28th annual general meeting today, the company reported that cargo handling reached 48.77 million tonnes in 2023, with vessel calls totaling 7,708 compared to 7,505 in 2022, surpassing targets by 102 percent.

The effective management and operation resulted in a revenue increase to RM821.64 million in 2023 from RM819.79 million in 2022, with a post-tax profit of RM125.06 million.

“The positive growth was driven by developments in various industries, particularly the oil and gas sector, marine activities, and RORO operations,” the company said in a statement.

Sarawak State Secretary and BPHB chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, while announcing the group’s integrated annual report for 2023, emphasized the group’s resilience, adaptability, and commitment to excellence despite challenges.

Meanwhile, BPHB group CEO Ruslan Abdul Ghani outlined the company’s three-pronged strategy: enhancing “Core Port Business”, exploring “Beyond Port Business”, and venturing into the “Low Carbon and Clean Energy” sector.

He said a new corporate culture that is customer-centric, solution-focused, step-up, result-minded and value driven was also introduced.

“Bintulu Port continues to play a vital role as a key export gateway for the oil and gas industry,” he added.
